Vacancy: Senior / Lead AWS Infrastructure & Cloud Security Engineer

We are seeking an AWS qualified Cloud Engineer to work closely with our product-focused engineering teams to develop, deploy and secure our infrastructure, applications, and services. The successful candidate will be passionate about DevOps and Cloud Engineering with ambitions to drive adoption of new technology and best practises. 

 This is a new role within the business, and you will need to be proactive and hands on. As such the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate initiative as well as leadership and mentoring skills.  

 You will be expected to create and deliver on an ambitions medium-term roadmap to enhance the security, stability, and maintainability of the platform. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain cloud-based infrastructure, applications, and services on AWS. 
  • Support use of “infrastructure as code” tools and techniques across the engineering team. 
  • Work with the engineering team to assess the security impact of proposed feature development and take part in code reviews with reference to secure coding practices. 
  • Monitor, review, and optimise application performance. 
  • Undertake ongoing security audits and benchmarking of infrastructure. 
  • Perform risk analysis and document all risks and mitigating controls within environments. 
  • Prepare and enforce standards and guidelines for infrastructure and cloud security. 
  • Assist in completion of technical documents and engagement related to RFPs and other enterprise technical enquiries. 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • AWS certified Professional DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect or equivalent. 
  • Working knowledge of security standards and frameworks including NIST, CIS, and ISO. 
  • Understanding of threat models and their application to aid in securing environments. 
  • Proven track record in AWS Cloud administration. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good documentation skills, including the ability to create and maintain system and process documentation. 
  • Strong software engineering skills. 
  • Excellent practical knowledge of using JavaScript and/or TypeScript in serverless environments, e.g., AWS Lambda. 
  • History of successful hands-on experience implementing and automating infrastructure as code cloud solutions utilizing AWS EC2 technologies, e.g., AWS CDK, SDK and SAM. 
  • Practical experience and sound technical understanding of tooling such as Bitbucket Pipelines, Terraform, Cognito, Dynamo DB, JIRA, CloudWatch etc. 
  • Proficiency in Linux-based operating systems and bash scripting. 
  • Understanding of containerised applications (Docker) and container management systems. 
  • Experience of non-relation and relational database management systems.

Work Location

The role is based in our central Manchester office. Hybrid working is acceptable, with regular office attendance.
