Clothing products can seem simple at first. Lets take a t-shirt. Nothing could be simpler in style, more familiar in use… a ubiquitous item everyone knows and has little or no detail or attribution, right? Well many of the companies above, who are distributing to promotional companies, will have t-shirts in 10 sizes from XXS to 5XL. Also many styles of t-shirts are available in up to 70 colours. So suddenly we’ve got 700 SKUs all behind a single “style” of garment with faceted attribution in two dimensions.
However the pain doesn’t end there… certain combinations, such as “bright pink in larger sizes” don’t exist because they don’t sell well or could be low stock, discontinued or cheaper in price. White t-shirts are cheaper than grey ones, which in turn are cheaper than coloured ones, and what constitutes “grey”? Ash Grey? Graphite? Dark Heather? Slate?
So evidently, even with something as simple as a t-shirt, you can quickly have a product information nightmare. However help is at hand with Pimberly. Using an attribute type called a “variant matrix” you can manage all 700 SKUs as a single entity and use the variant axes to draw a simple elegant grid in which to manage them all.
Pimberly also allows you to upload “Data sets” into it. These are tables of data that can be imported into Pimberly and then used in various places in the system. These can be used to single or multi-select an attribute. So for example we could have a colour table where a user can choose a value like “Antique Jade” from a list, not have to worry if they’ve spelt it correctly, then automatically assign other values such as colour code “ANJA” and colour group “Green”.
There can be other complexities around the images, with the t-shirt shown in combination with other products (see our blog post on images here) not to mention intricacy of managing languages, but whether it’s the colours and sizes of a t-shirt, the lengths and colours of a USB cable, the widths and heights of curtains (drapes), the colour, cup size and chest size of bras… multi-dimensional, multi-faceted product information is handled seamlessly in Pimberly.
